Overview and Symptoms

Overview and Symptoms

When the appendix is inflamed, it causes pain. The pain may begin around the naval, move to the lower right abdomen, and become severe.

Treatment

There is currently no cure for HIV/AIDS, although medications known as anti-retroviral regimens (ARVs) can dramatically slow the progression of symptoms.

Standard treatment for appendicitis is a surgery called appendectomy to remove the appendix.

  • Appendectomy can be performed as open surgery called laparotomy.
  • The surgery may be done through a few small incisions and special surgical tools. This is called laparoscopic surgery.
