Nasal Obstruction

Nasal obstruction is blockage of the nose or nasal cavity and can be caused by a wide variety of complications. Most cases are caused by sinusitis, allergies, or the overuse of nasal sprays. The blockage may also be caused by an anatomical factor, such as a deviated septum, enlarged adenoids, nasal polyps (swellings of the nasal and sinus mucous membrane) or foreign bodies in the nose.

Nasal obstructions can be a major contributor to sleep disorders, which can lead to snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness and other sleep-related symptoms. Identifying nasal obstructions includes an exam by your doctor that may comprise of X-rays and CT-Scans to look into the nasal passages as well as a nasal endoscopy, where the physician looks into your sinuses using a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope.

Treatment

If you are suffering from severe nasal obstructions, surgery is often recommended.
