Cushing Syndrome

Cushing Syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol – the body’s “stress hormone.” It can occur due to steroid medications or because the body itself produces too much cortisol, often from the adrenal glands or a pituitary gland problem.

Common features may include weight gain (especially around the face and trunk), round “moon” face, easy bruising, purple stretch marks, fatigue, muscle weakness, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and mood changes. Not everyone will have all symptoms, and they may develop gradually.

At Nano Hospitals, our endocrinology team evaluates Cushing Syndrome with a detailed history, physical examination, blood and urine tests, and specialized hormone tests. Imaging such as CT or MRI may be used to locate the source of excess cortisol. Treatment is individualized and may include medication, surgery, radiation, or adjustment of steroid doses, depending on the cause.

Early diagnosis and proper management can significantly improve quality of life and reduce the risk of complications such as diabetes, hypertension, and bone loss. If you notice persistent symptoms suggestive of Cushing Syndrome, consult our specialists for a thorough evaluation.
